Ševčík Academy and Tomáš Jamník

Otakar Ševčík became a legendary violin teacher thanks to his lifelong work. His legacy continues to thrive through international summer courses attended by students from both Czechia and abroad. The Ševčík Academy in Horažďovice fulfils the dream and vision of Tomáš Jamník, showing how 21st-century music education can combine instrumental teaching, expanding knowledge of methodology, providing public performance opportunities, and creating unforgettable experiences. Each age group has its own programme, but many activities are shared, allowing younger students to be inspired by their older peers.
Cellist Tomáš Jamník drew inspiration from Ševčík's legacy to create an extensive educational programme for exceptionally talented students of the performing arts. His project, built from the ground up, has grown beyond local importance, involving collaborations with top interpreters and educators, including Josef Špaček, Jan Fišer, Jiří Kabát, Lukáš Vondráček, Markéta Cukrová, and Jakub Hrůša, whenever their busy concert schedules allow.
The academy offers not only instruction in solo, chamber, and orchestral music but also prepares students for the life of a performing artist. It provides insights into the historical context of the interpreted works, mental preparation for concert performances, and guidance in seeking performance opportunities on both traditional and unconventional stages. The creativity with which Tomáš Jamník and his colleagues approach the academic concept reflects exceptional innovation, built on traditional values. The results of their pedagogical efforts will be showcased at the opening concert of the Dvořák Prague Festival cycle at Bořislavka.
This concert is a charity event. The proceeds from ticket sales will support exceptionally talented young musicians.
