Veronika Psotková – No Fear

Working with industrial materials, Veronika Psotková creates delicate sculptures that seem to float in space. Under her hands, wire comes to life, taking shape and becoming animated figures. Her unique sculptural work was the focus of the exhibition Fearless, which launched this year’s Line of Courage curatorial cycle—dedicated to presenting established Czech women artists to the public. Veronika exhibited her series Lazy Skin and Slippery Chair.
She also created a site-specific work for Artium space: a several-metre-long sculptural ensemble titled Pillar of Society. Veronika works with a type of wire mesh known as "rabitz," typically used in plastering. While this utilitarian material is far less malleable and harder to shape than other types of mesh, it has captivated the artist. “I deliberately chose a material considered unrefined. I try to draw out its refinement through the form and the sculpture that emerges from it,” Psotková explains. It is captivating to watch how, under her hands, industrial mesh transforms into seemingly fragile, ethereal figures. She describes her sculpting process as “sewing sculptures.” No Fear brought together Psotková’s one-of-a-kind figurative installations with the distinct atmosphere of Artium.
